Lenovo is refreshing its Legion gaming laptops at CES 2025, starting with the Legion Pro 7i (16”) 10th generation, the most powerful in the new Legion Pro Series Gen 10 lineup. The transition from the Gen 9 to the Gen 10 model highlights several key upgrades that improve performance, display quality, and overall user experience. The Legion Pro 5i and the Legion Pro 5 also got a Gen 10 upgrade, read our article here.
Processor, GPU, and Performance
The most significant change lies in the processor (CPU) and the GPU. The Legion Pro 7i 16 Gen 10 is powered by the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, a step up from the previous Gen 9’s Intel Core i9 13th Gen processors. The new processor architecture not only promises higher clock speeds but also better power efficiency, which is crucial for demanding gaming sessions and productivity tasks.
Graphics performance receives a significant boost with the Gen 10 model offering up to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Laptop GPU with 24GB GDDR7 VRAM, compared to the Gen 9, which maxed out at the RTX 4080 or 4090. This advancement ensures smoother gameplay at higher resolutions and more demanding visual effects.
Display
The display also sees notable improvements. The Gen 10 features an upgraded 16-inch WQXGA OLED panel with a 240Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time, delivering exceptional color accuracy (100% DCI-P3) and deeper blacks with VESA Trueblack 500 certification. This surpasses the IPS-based panels typically seen in the Gen 9, enhancing visual quality for both gaming and creative work.
Memory and Storage
While the Gen 9 supported DDR5 memory configurations up to 32GB, the Gen 10 doubles this with up to 64GB DDR5 running at 6400MHz. This increase significantly improves multitasking and the handling of large datasets, making the Gen 10 more suitable for content creators and professionals.
Storage capacity is also enhanced, with the Gen 10 supporting up to 2TB PCIe Gen 5 SSD configurations, allowing faster data access and reduced load times compared to the Gen 9’s PCIe Gen 4 solutions.Thermal Management
The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i 16 features Legion Coldfront Vapor with hyperchamber technology that delivers up to 250W TDP. This updated thermal system helps maintain lower temperatures, ensuring component longevity and consistent gameplay.

AI and Connectivity
The Gen 10 integrates Lenovo’s LA1+LA3 AI chips, enhancing system optimization and workload distribution. Additionally, the introduction of Intel Wi-Fi 7 provides faster wireless connectivity compared to the Gen 9’s Wi-Fi 6E, offering improved data transfer speeds and lower latency.
Battery and Design
Battery life remains at 99.99WHr, similar to the Gen 9, ensuring extended usage. However, the Gen 10 introduces a more efficient power adapter (up to 400W) for faster charging and sustained performance.
Price and Availability
The Lenovo Legion Pro 7i 16 Gen 10 will be available starting in March 2025, with a starting price of $2,399.
