TCL Introduces Playcube: A Portable “Magic Cube” Projector

At CES 2025, TCL briefly showcased its new Playcube, a portable projector with a unique “magic cube” design. This compact device consists of two rectangular sections, one of which twists to adjust the projection direction, offering flexibility for varied viewing setups. Its rechargeable battery and small form factor suggest a focus on portability and convenience.

Although TCL provided minimal details about the Playcube, it likely follows the trend of its earlier projector, the TCL A1, introduced in November 2024. The A1, priced at $499, features 1080p resolution, 360 lumens brightness, and image sizes ranging from 45 to 120 inches. It also integrates Google TV, a feature that may appear in the Playcube.

The Playcube’s market position remains unclear without specifics on resolution, brightness, or pricing. However, TCL’s history of competitive pricing indicates it may target budget-conscious consumers.

The portable projector market includes notable competitors like the Samsung The Freestyle (second generation), priced at $599 during discounts, and the ultra-portable Anker Nebula Capsule II, a Coke-can-sized projector priced at $579.99.

TCL’s entry into the projector segment is recent, yet promising, as it seeks to carve a niche in portable entertainment. Full specifications, pricing, and availability for the Playcube are anticipated soon, potentially during CES 2025. Industry observers are eager to see if TCL’s innovative design can disrupt the crowded portable projector market.
