Why You’ll Love This Boston Cream Poke Cake
If you love easy recipes that are delicious, this is the cake for you! Yes, it starts with a cake mix, but then we add pudding, which takes it to the next level. This recipe uses only a handufl of ingredients and can be made quickly; it does need to chill overnight for best results, but that is another advantage. You can make it in advance! We have many, many cakes from scratch, but sometimes you just need something simple, and this is the perfect one.
Can I use a different cake mix?
We like it with a butter cake mix but I’m sure any yellow cake mix would work. Of course, you could probably use a white one or even a chocolate one, but the chocolate would change the entire taste of the cake, and it would no longer be like a Boston cream cake.

Boston Cream Poke Cake
If you love easy recipes, this is the one for you, only a handful of ingredients and is simple to make.
- 1 15.25 ounce box of Butter Golden Cake Mix+the ingredients to make the cake
- 2 3.4 ounces boxes of Vanilla Instant Pudding
- 4 cups of milk
- 1 16-ounce can of store-bought milk chocolate frosting.

This cake is prepared in a 9X13 baking pan. Bake the cake according to the directions on the back of the cake mix box.

After the cake is done baking but is still warm, poke holes throughout the cake. We use the handle of a wooden spoon. Be sure to go all the way to the bottom of the cake.

Then, mix your two boxes of instant pudding with 4 cups of milk. Whisk for 1-2 minutes, then pour the pudding over the cake, ensuring it gets in the holes. Smooth the pudding across the cake and place it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
