Google Updates Android Privacy Dashboard With 7-Day View

Google has introduced an updated Privacy dashboard ahead of its planned inclusion in Android 16. This enhancement, revealed in the first Android 16 developer preview, allows users to view up to seven days of permissions-related activity, in addition to the existing 24-hour view. However, the feature has already been made available to eligible Pixel devices through the November 2024 Google Play system update, bypassing the need for Android 16.

First reported by 9to5Google, the update has been confirmed on devices like the Pixel 6a running Android 15 QPR1. Users can check for the Google Play system update by navigating to Settings > Security & privacy > System & updates.

The updated Privacy dashboard retains its original pie chart design but introduces a more detailed timeline for permissions usage, categorized under Location, Camera, and Microphone. Users can toggle between the 24-hour and 7-day views through a menu in the dashboard or the detailed timeline.

This longer view allows users to identify and manage apps or services that have accessed sensitive permissions over a week. If an app seems to misuse permissions, users can use the “Manage permission” option within the timeline to revoke or adjust access.

This development aligns with Google’s accelerated Android release schedule—The first Android 16 developer preview was released shortly after Android 15’s stable version, a significant change from the usual annual cadence.

The swift rollout of features like the updated Privacy dashboard highlights Google’s commitment to improving user experience without waiting for major Android updates. Android 16’s beta versions are expected soon, offering more insights into Google’s next steps in its software evolution.
