The Next Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Game Is Going Turn-Based

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been around a long time, and there’ve been a lot of versions of them running around lately. Over the last few years, that diversity’s spread over to their games, like the Shredder’s Revenge beat-em-up and the pretty dope roguelike Splintered Fate. For their next genre-hopping adventure, the heroes are dipping a shell into turn-based combat, of all things.

During the recent PC Gaming Showcase, I Am Your Beast developer Strange Scaffold revealed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown. As Leo, Donnie, Raph, or Mikey, players take on the Foot Clan in 20 “constantly mutating levels” that feature different modifiers. Story-wise, the Turtles have been driven apart after Splinter’s death, but reunite after the Foot Clan emerges again with a new leader taking the now-dead Shredder’s place. Further complicating things for the Turtles is their growth into adulthood and trying to figure out what that means for them without their father by their side.

It’s a different vibe for the Ninja Turtles than we’re used to, though it won’t be too much of a departure. The gameplay is said to be influenced by classic TMNT games, and each Turtle will have their own individual playstyle. They’ll also each get their own mini-campaign so you can see how they view their broken family, visualized through a graphic novel art style, dioramas, and figurines. Even if you haven’t played Strange Scaffold’s other work—and you probably should, just to understand its sensibilities—it’s hard not to be intrigued by what Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown’s showing off ahead of its 2025 release on PC.
